Epsilonlab

Epsilonlab is a Montreal-based audio-visual label dedicated to promotion of innovative electronic music and digital art. Releases include CDs, DVDs and a constantly-evolving repertoire of downloadable audio-visual files. Epsilonlab is particularly known for integrating music with visuals during live performances and on DVD. Founded in December of 2000, Epsilonlab was initially a collective of musicians, VJs, designers and contemporary dancers devoted to live audio-visual experiments in immersive environments. The collective’s “Group Therapies” became something of a legend in the Montreal scene and helped establish a vibrant community of like-minded VJs and electronic music producers. Did you ever wonder how the name Sensual Physics came into being? Well, for this next release on Epsilonlab, we get a glimpse into the lovely, linear soundscapes and deep, minimal grooves that comprise Joerg Schusters musical brainchild. This beautiful four-track EP spans the realm of intelligent dance music in absolute modern day elegance. Each of the tracks are built upon super-tight, synthetic drum structures; which provide a clean, clicky, club-teasing pulse. The drums are then surrounded...

What went wrong at the town hall in NY on the night of Oct 12, 1962? Mossa, via his latest release which definitely differs from his usual material, takes you back to that moment at the New York Town Hall when Charles Mingus and his 30 musicians made history. Yesterday's best jazz elements and today's funky rhythms blend in Mossa's hands through three pieces that will deserve a prominent spot in your musical entertainment collection. As if it wasn't enough, the instant classic "Town Hall -...

Red velvet draping a staircase, antique frescoes lining up a hallway. Surreal music flooding the hallway from a slightly ajar door at its end. Step into Frivolous' musical world, where one discovers a sound and emotions filled to the brim with forgotten treasures via arrangements forged through the frivolous spirit of our friend from western Canada. This time, Dirty Jam Gigohm collaborated with our Karloff records old-timer to produce a classic from the 1950s revisited via electronica. This...

Alexandre returns to Epsilonlab with a fresh pack of massive, house music superlatives. Everyone in the electronic music community is in for a real treat as a result of his latest offering. The tracks are straight up chunky, smooth, urbanized, Detroit-laced warehouse weapons. Any DJ would be hard pressed to not immediately begin incorporating these heavy movers into their repertoire. Alexandre reminds the community of the itÃÂs roots whilst incorporating up to the minute production expertise-...

For those familiar with the netlabel scene, Paul Keely is a man who needs no introduction. After his acclaimed releases on Thinner and Panospria, here he is finally on Epsilonlab, with 4 of his finest tracks to date. Starting with the very funky "I can't stop", where we can find elements of a certain well known song (?), on to "New Seclusion" and "Communique", two tracks with irresistable grooves and surprising sensitivity, and finally ending up at "Neutron...

Alas, the Lab that is Epsilon has once again reached its golden arm deep into the futuristic underground to bring forth new forms in dance music. This time, Hailing from the lush, sea sprayed lands of Acadie; Alexandre Bilodeau arrives bringing with him a fashionable, cyber-tech dance floor gem. Energy as it is appropriately titled is a venture into glitched-up, stompy tech-house that tickles the senses with its computeristsic genetic make-up and tough, bumping groove. Energy is the type of...

Vincent's second release on Epsilonlab is best consumed either on a rainy sunday afternoon or on a sunny beach, carried by subtle dance steps. Once again, his masterful beats and ambiance skills are showcased by a series of strong melodic compositions which will whisk you away, each in a different direction. All tracks combine to create an emotionally rich menu where each dish is as unique as a Cosmic Bikini.

Flowing down the pipeline of quality this month are a pack of smooth, soulful, deep-tech sounds from the lovely, Dublee. Indeed your favourite lab wishes you a pleasant onset of winter weather by delivering you with these warm dance tracks. At first listen one notices immediately the friendly accessible house sounds- the glittering pads, the trace guitar flicks, the melodic mini-solos and the tight and cleanly drum lines. As the listeners is drawn in closer- he is then greeted by ever so plump...

As the first to join forces with Éloi Brunelle as part of Epsilonlab (December 2000), in fact, Pheek is definitely an old-timer. He finally returns to us with "Épisodes" after two CD albums, namely "Paysages Matriciels" and recently "Les autres promeneurs", and a contribution to the well known "Audiotherapy" DVD project. Anyone in the know will tell you - Pheek loves groovy minimal rhythms and way-out sounds. No one can argue that he strayed from his...

Recently discovered by the Epsilonlab Crew, Vincent Casanova's music appeared as one could have discovered an unexpected pearl while cracking oysters.Delivering three pleasant sublime house tracks that unfold their personality in a very charming way, Vincent introduces his own definition of minimal and functional house. His earlier days being a drummer can be felt if one pays attention to the distinct rhythmic architecture, as his tracks develop through shifting and variable patterns....

The Piknic Electronik in Montreal are an increasingly popular event held on Sunday afternoons, which features a variety of local djs playing under the sun, and are an ideal way to wind down the weekend. This year, the organisers decided they needed a theme song, and Eloi was recruited for the job. The task was special in that they needed not only a simple soundtrack, but rather something that represented the different styles of music featured at the events, which ranges from deep house to...

It's been a while since Epsilonlab wanted Mossa on-board to participate in our journey into innovative tech house. This piece will surprise you to no end, as he shares his own views on our sound direction. As part of the Complot label--and as a DJ at Les Folies--Mossa's hardly a newcomer to the music community. He also proudly plays in a funk band, testing every musical avenue he can find. Its no surprise then that his approach to sound is delicate, sharp, humour-filled and quite sensitive....

We first met Jeff at one of Elois shows at Londons Fabric club. He was scheduled to play after Eloi and it was also his first gig in London. Over a few drinks beforehand, the three of us hit it off. But it wasnt until later that we realized how much we liked his set and his music. As Jeff had already had a few releases out--on esteemed labels like Poker Flat--we knew we wanted to work with him. This first release is all deep tech-house, the type that Jeff does with ease. The EP has a deep,...

Does the name "Lucid" ring a bell? If its not because of his numerous appearances at the Vibesensor parties, it's likely because of his contribution to our first DVD, "Audiovideotherapy". "Electric Supplements" is the name of a new series of releases on Epsilonlab; a series dedicated to expanding the boundaries of our sound into the universe of electro-house. On this first release, Lucid shows us a new face; one after the other, the different tracks evoke various...

Sometimes in this dynamic and ever changing world of dance music a live set goes down that captures and reflects the feelings and moments that were present during the performance. It is these sets that are happily collected and revisited by the listener- and thus the vibe can be reborn again and again. This next release on Epsilonlab is just that- a timeless set recorded live. repeat LIVE in Switzerland back in 2002. The artist you ask? It is of course none other than the man with the plan,...

The Irish man Gary Spence is one busy man. This results from his fierce work to define his own sound where he got influenced by many sources. Electronic or not, music is a driving tool that made his own music world spin around a warm, sexy and melodic groove. Already released with different labels and a remarkable album on Morris Audio Citysport, tpolar is now a familiar name to the DJs who dig house material with a funky vibe. He might not be yet known publicly, but is upcoming releases on...
